Virtual Model Pricing - Sum of its suggestions
We are in the wedding industry where we only show clients ideas and high level designs.
For example, they need a stage for a ceremony. We have a virtual model called 'stage' that has suggestions for the stage decks, legs, skirting, etc.. But the client does not need to see all the pieces. But the stage rental cost is the sum of the suggestions. Can Flex sum the suggestions and place this amount into the cost of the Virtual Model? If we LM the suggestions then the client's quote total will show an amount but the stage shows $0. Currently we are Total Muting the suggestions and then manually adding them and putting that into virtual model. But that seems not efficient when you have an inventory management system. Any thoughts?

Hey Jay -
One way to do this is to move the pricing off the suggestions and onto the virtual model itself, a-la our tipycal example for having a "linear feet of drape" virtual item- So if your stage decks are 4x8, you could have a "Stage Deck System - per 32 sq ft" virtual item where each increment of that virtual item represents "one of each" - a deck and four legs plus dressing if applicable, and is priced accordingly- so if a customer wants 320 sq ft, you have 10x of that virtual item, it adds 10 decks, 40 legs, couplers, skirting, etc, and they would just see the virtual item price.-Aaron

I attempted Aaron's solution but unfortunately it's not just a "Stage Deck System - per 32 sq ft". For example, the skirting comes in 4ft and 8ft lengths and depending on configuration of decks the skirting changes. A blanket per square feet can't take this into accommodation. A summation is ideal. I asked Flex about this over a year ago.

Bumping this topic again. Customer Success Team (Aaron's) suggestion would create A LOT of virtual packages for our sales team to sift through. Also if we want to charge the client for a "Truss Structure"; we build those out differently per show which wouldn't be known until the building of the quote.
Plus, cleanliness of the quote for clients to read is important and being able to line mute all the child items while still showing the total price in the parent/virtual package on the quote is extremely valuable. Currently, if the child is muted, the package has $0 and the quote total has the sum of the muted items which would be confusing for the client.

Hi all-
We have customized quote reports to do this. We insert logic to show the sum of the child item prices on the parent line. Can also utilize a custom field to indicate which inventory models this should apply to.
It works pretty well, as you can see and adjust the component pricing within Flex, but the customer just sees the package price.
Reach out to hello@squarewave.com.au if you'd like more information on this or any other custom report services.
Cheers,
