Inventory and serialized storage

When scanning items into inventory, why is it not possible to scan out a serialized storage case and have all of it's contents scan out onto inventory the same way it works with pull sheets? inventory in Flex 5 is pretty much a pull sheet and you have to scan out all the items in order to close inventory, so why can't scanning a serialized container be scanned out the same way as you do in pull sheet and have all the contained items scanned out automatically.
