Multiple Manufacturers, Substitute-able kits?
How do you handle items which need to be their own model or kit due to related-item compatibility (remotes, batteries, etc.) but which you want availability to work from the front-end?
The example I'm working on right now is cordless drills. We have Ryobi, DeWalt and Black & Decker 18v drills. I've made Serialized Storage models for Kits that have Storage Requirements that include the drill, and compatible batteries and charger.
At the kit level, I've made them all Substitutions for each other, so if someone throws a Ryobi drill on a quote and ignores availability, the warehouse has an easy way to fulfill.
But, what I'd like is a Super-Kit which represents the inventory of all of the 18v drills, so project managers aren't choosing a DeWalt kit or a Ryobi kit, but instead an 18v Drill kit.
Thoughts?

I tried to make a Virtual Item that had the three different manufacturer's kits as substitutions, and that looked like it was going to work, in that the counts showed what was available from all of the substitutes in the virtual model's Qty tab, but then I added it to a Quote, confirmed the quote, generated the pull sheet, and when I got to the prep screen, it immediately wanted me to finalize, because the only item on the pull sheet was a virtual item.
Ideally, at the prep screen, an item configured the way I'm hoping would require substitution, but would also show availability in the quotes, as rolled-up from available substitutes.
