    Hey Scott,

Thanks for the question. In order for this to work properly, the items will need to be set up as "Serialized Storage". An item doesn't necessarily need to have a serial number in order for it to be a serialized unit, but in order to track where items are, the container needs to be "Serialized Storage". Here is a link to an article in our Help Center that outlines containers and packages.

    Eddie,

The only problem with these is that I have to serialize the mic stands, then if the boom is removed it has to have a different barcode to represent the same stand without a boom. I'm hoping to have something like a "Non Serialized item with Accessories" or a "Virtual Package" but one barcode will send out all the accessories or all the items in the package.

    Thanks,

     Scott

Hey Scott, yes as @... said, if you want to scan out the base, upright, and boom with 1 scan, you'd have to serialize one of the pieces like the upright for example and let that be the "container".  But I think there's a misunderstanding when you say "if the boom is removed it has to have a different barcode to represent the same stand without a boom".  You would not need to change barcodes, but you would need to change the contents of the upright to remove the boom.  Whatever the case, you would scan out the upright and it's "contents" (boom and base if applicable) using the upright's serialized barcode.

After saying all that, I will say that this is not an ideal way to track the mic stands in my opinion.  It's extremely tedious to have to adjust the upright's containment every time a boom or base is added or removed.  Doesn't seem worth it to me.  I would recommend having 2 versions of your mic stand virtual package.  1 with the boom and 1 without.  Then allocate the quantities to the appropriate package on the quote/pull sheet appropriately.  That should give you the accurate total piece count.  Then when scanning out, simply count up the total number of bases, uprights, and booms to satisfy the lines of the scan screens.  This is probably pretty close to what you're doing already.  But I don't see trying to serialize and containerize your mic stands being advantageous.

Chime back if you have other thoughts or questions.  Let me know if I can be of service directly as a consultant.
