Adding bin information to individual serialized units

    Norm,

    The bin location tab is available at the Model level of an inventory item, but unfortunately, Flex does offer the ability to assign individual serialized units to a different Bin Location than the models have been assigned to. It is assumed that all of the serialized units for a model will be stored together.

    Norm-

    It's a fair bit of extra scanning but you could set up your bins as storage containers and scan your items in and out of them. Then you could always pull up an item and see which container it was in. Just a thought.

    I know it's been a bit since this was posted, but my immediate thought was that you could create custom fields at the unit level to match the Bin Location fields that are available on the parent model level.  That would make it available in the user interface as well as available for a custom report that could pull those fields.  Let me know if I can be of assistance.

    Hey Jo-anna,

    If you're an administrator, in the Flex4 app, go to System Settings > Custom Fields.  In the right pane, click on "New Custom Field".  I'll give a specific example that matches the existing Bin format at the parent model level, but you can modify it to suit your needs:

    Type: Resource
    Caption (field name): Section
    Data Type: Free Text
    Permission: (whatever is appropriate or leave as "None")
    Group Name (name given to a newly created tab): Bin
    Ordinal: 0 (for Section, 1 for Aisle, 2 for Shelf, 3 for Bin)
    Resource Class: Serial Number
    Resource Types: {blank}

    When you open a serialized unit page, you'll now see a tab called "Bin" and there will be a field labeled "Section" for you to populate.  You'll need to repeat the above steps for the Aisle, Shelf, and Bin fields.  Make sure all four custom fields use the same Group Name in order to be together on the same tab.

    If you have multiple locations, you can either create separate tabs for each location, or use the Caption of each field to accommodate a specific location as well as the normal field name.  Either way, you'll have multiples of 4 for each location.

    Note that the serialized unit page is the only place this information will appear since it's a custom field.  If you want it to appear in a report, then you'll need a new custom report, or modify an existing report to populate with the custom fields.  This is a service I offer if you would like me to assist with this.  My contact information is below.  Hope this helps Jo-anna!
