Flex 5 API / Online Store
We're looking at creating an online storefront for our business and are wondering about Flex 5 having an open API / ability to integrate with other online platforms like shopify (or something similar). While we're a full service production company, we also have a pretty steady stream of 'out the door rentals'. We're trying to automate the 'out the door rentals' as much as possible. As it is now, the amount of phone calls and emails it takes us to confirm a rental is on par with us booking a mid sized show!
Is this possible at this time? Any feedback / thoughts are welcome!
Cheers,
Scott

Hey Scott,
Flex's official documentation is going to be found here. They stress that they do not currently give official support with client use of the API, so you wouldn't get any help through Flex support at this point. Down the road, their API will become more solidified and officially supported. So, it's a "use at your own risk" scenario.
Your idea is potentially possible with what's available in the API. The question becomes more of the vulnerability of using the API in it's (basically) beta form. I would say light use of the API is probably a good exploration. The more elaborate the project, the more caution you may want to consider. While I don't know of any major changes coming at the moment, that could change once development puts some focus on it in the future. Also, consider that fees associated with the API will eventually come into play.
This is obviously not the official Flex response, but I do keep in touch with them pretty regularly. I hope that helps.

Hi Scott-
I'm Bigs, the other consultant. What Aaron said above is pretty accurate but I have a bit more to offer.
Please email and I'll be happy to explain further.
Thanks

We run a multi-tenant service that allows anyone using Flex to make their own dashboard using Microsoft Power BI. Here is an example of a dashboard we created.
Anyone interested in using this service to make their own dashboard (or) use our "standard" dashboard can contact myself.

Directing you to a starting point depends on where you want to start.
Here are four of many options;
1 - The Flex API is available. It requires quite allot of coding to make a usable dashboard.
2 - Our API is also available which is a "translation" of the Flex API that reorganizes data to make it easier to build out a dashboard. Then you can use pre canned solutions, like Microsoft Power BI.
3 - Our dashboard is available to anyone that wishes to use it, straight out of the box, no coding necessary.
4 - Biggs @ squarewave also has a very nice dashboard that is available, straight out of the box, no coding necessary.
There may be other solutions that I am not aware of...
