Fixed RFID Readers / Dock Portal

We are considering a move to RFID using dock portals with fixed readers rather than handheld scanners. We are hoping that using the shipping manifest in Flex we can push a case through the portal, have the devices read and the manifest updated.

Can Flex do this without human intervention or waiting for confirmation feedback (for example, waiting for "Scan Successful")?

How many items can Flex update simultaneously? In my research I've found there are systems that will read 1000s / second. We don't need throughput like that but the capability to read 100-200 / second would be expected.
