Printer Template Sort Order

    Hi Chris,

Those do have a "sort order," but I'm seeing a small issue with the fetch. They're being sorted by a yes/no property which is not currently accessible in the UI, then by "printer name." For new Barcode Printer Preferences, the unseen yes/no is always "no," thus preventing it from being a factor in the sorting. That is to say, this issue would only affect customers that have Printer Preferences created with Flex4.

Depending on how many Preferences you have that are not sorting alphabetically by printer name, you can either recreate them or reach out to our support team for assistance with resetting the "default preference" setting on those.

I've noticed the same issue a while back and I think there are actually two issues at play.

While the "default preference" can mess up the sorting of the printers which otherwise are sorted alphabetically, when using multiple templates assigned to the same printer the templates are shown in random order in the print barcode dialog.

A quick workaround is to create a 'Printer' in Flex for each 'Printer Template' and then assign each template to it's own 'Printer'. In this setup, multiple 'Printer' are set to the same configuration such as Printer Host Name / Raw Port Number etc. and will print to the same physical printer but the templates will be sorted consistently by the 'Printer' name.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the replies.  I will try the suggested work around.

Hey Chris, how did the multiple printers trick go? I think Flex should just add a sort in that dialog but they haven't actioned feature request

Hey Joshua, multiple printer trick works well enough.  I ended up not doing a printer for each template, but divided the templates across a couple of printers to make the list more manageable.  A full sort dialog would be nice.

    All,

We should have a fix out for the inconsistent sorting in the next release. The grid will sort by template name, then printer, then location (which is the order of the columns in the grid). A feature that recognizes usage to sort by was not an "easy win," but it is logged for future consideration. Hopefully a consistent sort order will help in the meantime.

    That's great Randy!

I'm looking forward to it. I think sorting by template name is a great move and will satisfy our issues.
