Possible for more than 1 barcode?
Hey all,
I'm wondering if there's a way to assign more than 1 barcode to a product?
For instance, if someone wants to rent something thats normally part of a "kit" or "case" but just wants the one item, example, a Decimator. I have most units assigned to the kit, but I'm wondering if someone were to rent just the Decimator is there a way for the system to know that the unit for the kit has been checked out and could show that the 1 full kit isn't available?
Thanks for your help,
James

Hi James S,
There is not a way to assign more than one barcode to a given Serial Unit. The only way to do this is to remove the unit from the kit. The best way is by using the Content Builder.

Hi James S,
If the "kit" is a Serialized Package, then each container "is what it is." Meaning, there are no storage requirements, so nothing to compare what's in it versus expected. Things like amp racks are a great example of what should be Serialized Packages; you can tell from the model's name what's in them. If this is the case, there's no way for the system to know that something is missing from the container.
If the kit is a Serialized Storage, then there are "storage requirements," however, currently, availability does not take into account the fact that a given container is incomplete.
In either case, for the moment, my best recommendation is to remove the thing from the kit as previously suggested, then use Free Scan Out on the container, or mark it as out of commission (which you do depends on how your company operates and your expectations for the container while it's incomplete). In the future, Serialized Storage may be able to detect missing "storage requirements" and consider the unit as "not available," but I can't guarantee if or when that'll happen (given that this has been the behavior for many years and I'm not in the position to change it myself).
