"best practices..."
I've been learning Flex and how I can utilize it best with how my company operates. No small task... I'm not even familiar with all of the inventory in the shop but I guess this is a good way to learn that and Flex.
I've been looking into building packages and/or models. We don't have a huge amount of inventory so items are mostly not set in any one place. Things are taken out of RU cases and mixed and matched as needed, with no "permanent" state.
I still would like to be able to build packages/models to save time. Would I have to build hundreds of packages, let's say, for a stage setup. How do I know how many 6'x4's or 8'x4's are in any particular staging layout? Would I need drawings to accompany these different packages?
Another issue I ran into while playing with Scaffold packages, is I have some items that are contents with suggestions. And those suggestions have suggestions. I had it set to "virtual package." Nothing popped up for a suggestions of a suggestion. I am new so I don't know the potential of all the different model types.
I'm hoping to get some insight on how I can make things run a little smoother when it comes to packages/models etc...inventory in general. Thanks in advance!

Hey Joseph. My name's Aaron. I'm an independent consultant endorsed by Flex that has been using Flex since 2011 and been a consultant for going on 4 years.
The subject matter you bring up is a loaded one and no small task. You're touching a bit on packages as well as containers. They are different in their functionality as one is for element (ex. Quotes, Pull Sheets) building and the other is a physical storage function. Sometimes they are congruent but also not in many cases. Most of what you talk about is packages. It's possible you may have to make many packages for stage layouts, but sometimes you can minimize this by using the packages within packages as you suggest. I have worked with at least 3 staging companies as clients and have helped to build and train on packages for sales and logistics. This saved them a lot of time in creating pull lists as I'm sure you could imagine.
Specifically for suggestions of suggestions, when the suggestion pop-up opens, you'll see a small arrow on the right side for any suggestions that have their own list of suggestions. Simply click on the arrow on the right side of the pop-up to see the suggestions for that model.
