Best Practice - Temp Locations?
Hello all,
In these current times of no-live events, our company has built a "virtual studio." We have really packed with a huge portion of our inventory, so it's pretty common to have to borrow gear from there.
We built it as a single job in Flex, So borrowing gear from there for other jobs only works once since you can't "re-prep" multiple barcodes. I'd like to figure out a way to set up a Temporary location so gear can be free scanned in and out. However I think I'd have to pay a hefty fee to have another location added that will ultimately be disbanded.
Anyone have any ideas for best practice?
Thanks!

Hi Tom-
How about a container? This allows you to keep all the gear grouped together and you can also control whether it is available for other jobs.
Create a 'Studio' container item and scan all the gear which is in use into it. You can use the 'Serialized Container Report' to see all items inside.
If you're gonna go this route, think about contents availability before you do. You may want all contents available for other jobs or unavailable because they need to stay in the studio. Or you could have two containers - 'Studio Available' and 'Studio Unavailable'.
Hope that helps!

Hi Tom-
I'm a bit surprised by your response, I actually think this solution is pretty simple. Once you have created the containers, you can literally have a big barcode printed out and stuck on the wall and the 'average user' would scan the barcode to open the container then scan anything they are sending to the studio. To return gear from the studio back into the warehouse, just Free Scan In.
No worries though, if you don't like it don't use it. I think you now understand the 3 options for this problem though - a second location, a manifest, or a container.
Cheers

I tried the manifest option before, but it was unsuccessful..
I think the MAJOR advantage of an alt location is to create Transfer Orders for the gear that could be taken out of there. That way more employees have visibility on how everything is operating.
Thanks for your suggestions :)
