    Hi Sander,

It depends on your needs. Take a look at https://helpcenter.flexrentalsolutions.com/hc/en-us/articles/12053032516503-Containers-and-Packages. In Flex parlance, a "container" would mean the cables in the case are available for use and not removed from availability until the container is scanned out; a "package" would remove the cables from availability once added to the case.

Hi Randy, I understand this. What I want is behaviour like a package. The thing is when the case is coming back it cab behave like a storage container because cables het lost or returning in an other case. So check in would be neccessary by scanning all the items separatly.

I hope you understand what I mean

    Hi Sander,

Yes, I understand; I used to be an inventory manager and warehouse tech. However, in most instances, cases typically fit one of the two profiles (container or package) and should be configured as such at the model level. For cases that "aren't anything without contents" (i.e., an amp rack), "package" is usually the right way to go; conversely, a cable kit/trunk might be a container--you just need x-amount of each cable when it leaves, it doesn't matter that it's missing a few in the meantime.

The next side of this is setting various contents to be "permanent." My rule of thumb is that if it's bolted to the case (i.e., amps in an amp rack), then it's a permanent item/content. If it's not bolted in (i.e., the XLR patch cables in the amp rack), then it's not permanent contents.

Additionally, you can configure Flex's "automatic" behavior with regards to permanent/non-permanent contents in a few different ways. In Inventory > Inventory Settings, you'll find 6 options toward the bottom that are in regards to "explode," "invalidate," and "container mode." You can find information about those here: https://helpcenter.flexrentalsolutions.com/hc/en-us/articles/5918189534999-Inventory-Settings.

And finally, if you go to Projects > Element Definitions > Manifest (or whichever definition is your manifest type where you perform inbound scanning), then go to the Shipping & Receiving tab (found here https://helpcenter.flexrentalsolutions.com/hc/en-us/articles/8238055614871-Projects-Element-Definitions#h_01GNAB6YRJGWDYPH0DWPTHJ359), the Container Auto Scan Mode option in each scan mode section controls how Flex will treat containers/packages during that particular scanning mode. For inbound scans (i.e., Deprep and Return), I personally prefer the "Permanent Contents" option as that seems to mimic how I always worked in a warehouse. This means that you will be manually scanning the non-permanent contents for all containers/packages. For an amp rack, you've got to manually return the patch cables; for the cable kit, you've got to count all of them and return them individually.

Hope that helps. Feel free to reach out to our support team if you need further assistance. They should be able to walk you through any of the nuances that may not be clear in the documentation.
