Overview
In Flex, you can virtually build containers and packages in the same way that they are built physically. For example, if you have an amp rack case that has several amplifiers in it, then you can set up the amp rack case to be a container in Flex. Set up as a container in Flex, the amp rack case can have items scanned into it. When you scan the amp rack case out of inventory, the items contained inside the container will also be scanned out.
There are a few different types of containers and packages that can be built in Flex, each of which are explained in the instructions below.
Serialized Packages
Serialized Package inventory models are most often viewed as cases or containers that contain permanent items that should not be available for individual rental. This might include amp racks (with individual amplifiers bolted inside), control racks (with components that don’t move between racks), and power distros.
When you choose Serialized Package from the Structure/Availability settings of an inventory model, the options will be set as Tracked by S/N = Yes, Model Contents = No, Unit Container = Yes, Contents Available = No, and Contents Permanent can = Yes or No. The remaining options are set to No. See Structure/Availability Settings for more information about each setting.
How to build a Serialized Package:
- Open one of the serial units of the serialized package inventory model (see Adding and Editing Serial Units for more information)
- Click the Contents tab. Remember, this is done on the serial unit page, not the inventory model page.
- Click Open in Content Builder (see Content Builder for more information)
- Scan the barcodes of the items that will go inside this case/container.
The items you scanned into the case/container will now automatically be scanned out when the case/container is scanned out; its contents will not count toward satisfying other lines. If the items were marked as Permanent when they were scanned into the case/container, then they will also automatically scan in when the case/container is scanned in.
Serialized Storage
Serialized Storage inventory models are similar to Serialized Packages, but the main difference is that you should view Serialized Storage as a temporary storage case/container. This might include cases for lights (with several lights that might return in different cases after a job), cable package cases (where cables might not return in the same case), and console cases.
When you choose Serialized Storage from the Structure/Availability settings of an inventory model, the options will be set as Tracked by S/N = Yes, Model Container = No, Unit Container = Yes, Contents Available = Yes, and Contents Permanent = No. The remaining options are set to No. See Structure/Availability Settings for more information about each setting.
How to build a Serialized Package:
- Open one of the serial units of the serialized storage inventory model. (See Adding and Editing Serial Units for more information.)
- Click the Contents tab. Remember, this is done on the serial unit page, not the inventory model page.
- Click Open in Content Builder (see Content Builder for more information)
- Scan the barcodes of the items that will go inside this case/container.
The items you scanned into the case/container will now automatically be scanned out when the case/container is scanned out; its contents will count toward satisfying other lines according to the Auto Scan Match Mode preference set for the scan mode in which it occurs. Since Serialized Storage should be viewed as temporary storage, and because Contents Permanent = No, the items scanned into the case/container will NOT automatically scan in when you scan the case/container in. You will still have to individually scan each item, then rebuild the case/container.
