Overview
You can track depreciation for your inventory using fields built into Flex serialized inventory models and serial units. When Track Depreciation is enabled, you will see two new fields on inventory models (serialized inventory models only) and serial units:
- Depreciation Period (in Months)
- Salvage Value
Enabling Inventory Depreciation Fields
To enable the inventory depreciation fields, go to the Inventory menu, then click Inventory Settings. Set the "Track Depreciation" setting to Yes.
With this setting set to Yes, you will now see the Depreciation Period (in Months) and Salvage Value fields in the following places:
- The new / edit serialized inventory model popup
- The new / edit serial unit popup
- In the inventory model header area (if values are entered in the fields)
- In the serial unit header area (if values are entered in the fields)
Entering Depreciation Information on Inventory Models
To enter depreciation information on an inventory model:
- Open an inventory model (or create a new inventory model and bypass step 2).
- Click the Edit Model icon in the top-right corner.
- Find the depreciation fields and enter information.
- Click OK
Setting a value for these fields in the inventory model serves as a reference for what you might set the serial unit value to. When you create a new serial unit (from the Serial Units tab), the Depreciation Period and Salvage Value will pre-populate with whatever is set in the model settings. Both fields can be modified before creating the new serial unit.
Any changes to the inventory model fields will NOT push to existing serial units belonging to that model. You will have to manually change any serial unit Depreciation fields, or use the bulk edit feature to change more than one serial unit Depreciation fields at the same time.
Entering Depreciation Information on Serial Units
To enter depreciation information on a serial unit:
- Open a serial unit.
- Click the Edit Model icon in the top-right corner.
- Find the depreciation fields and enter information.
- Click OK
As mentioned in the previous section, when creating a new serial unit, the depreciation fields will auto-populate with whatever is set in the parent model. But you can manually change the unit values before creating the unit.
Bulk Editing Serial Unit Depreciation Fields

- Click the Serial Units tab.
- Check the box next to any serial unit you want to bulk edit.
- Click the Edit Selected Units icon below the grid.
- Find the depreciation fields and enter values.
- Click UPDATE.
