Overview

Numbering Schemes are a way that you can organize resources that you create in Flex. A numbering scheme uses rules that you can set up, and apply numbering to specific resources in your system like elements and inventory, for example. 

Adding a Numbering Scheme

1. In the  Main Menu, go to  System Settings and select Numbering Schemes.
2. Click the  Add New Scheme button in the bottom left.
3. Enter the new numbering scheme information.
   • Name: The name of the numbering scheme.
   • Basic Scheme: The method used to generate numbers:
     • Sequential By Year: The numbering scheme will produce a numeric sequence starting at 0 for each year. After choosing Sequential By Year, ensure that a Year Prefix is selected.
     • Sequential: The numbering scheme will produce a numeric sequence starting at 0 the first time it is used, and will not reset.
     • Cryptographically Random: The numbering scheme will produce an alphanumeric sequence that is cryptographically random. 
     • Manual Entry: The numbering scheme will not produce a sequence. It must be entered manually each time. 
   • Sequence From Common Pool: Determines if the sequence will be shared with multiple elements.
   • Custom Prefix: Optional prefix to the generated number.
   • Year Prefix: A two or four digit year prefix.
   • Prefix Separator: A symbol that is used to separate the prefix from the sequence.
   • Max Digits: The maximum number of digits in the sequence (excluding prefixes).
4. Click OK.

After the numbering scheme has been created, you can then apply it to an inventory item within the Inventory Settings or to an element in the Numbering tab within Element Definitions.

Editing Numbering Scheme Settings

1. Click the  Main Menu, click  System Settings, then click Numbering Schemes.
2. Double-click on the numbering scheme that you want to edit.
3. Edit the numbering scheme information.
4. Click OK.

Deleting a Numbering Scheme

1. In the  Main Menu, go to  System Settings and select Numbering Schemes.
2. Select the checkbox(s) of the Numbering Scheme(s) you want to delete.
3. Click the  Delete Selected Scheme(s) icon located in the bottom left of the tab.

Undeleting a Numbering Scheme

1. In the  Main Menu, go to  System Settings and select Numbering Schemes.
2. Check the "Show Deleted Only" option located in the bottom left of the tab.
3. Select the checkbox(s) for the Numbering Scheme(s) you want to undelete.
4. Click the  Undelete Selected Scheme(s) icon located in the bottom left of the tab.
