Overview
Workspaces give each browser tab its own independent set of open Flex tabs. When you open Flex in a new browser tab, you start with a clean workspace containing only Home. As you open, close, reorder, or switch between Flex tabs, your workspace is saved automatically. Refreshing the browser restores that browser tab's Flex tabs right where you left off, and working in several browser tabs at once won't cause them to overwrite one another.
Opening the Workspaces Tab
Click the Workspaces icon, located immediately to the left of the Home tab. The Workspaces tab is always available and can't be closed or moved. Each user is limited to 10 workspaces (see Workspace Limit below to learn more).
The Workspaces tab lists each of your saved workspaces:
- Name: The workspace's name. The workspace you're currently using is always listed first. If it hasn't been named, it displays as This workspace.
- Open tabs: A list of the Flex tabs saved in the workspace. Displays Home only when no other tabs are open.
- Permanent: Prevents the workspace's saved tabs from changing automatically as you work. See Permanent Workspaces below for details.
Managing Workspaces
Renaming a Workspace
On the Workspaces tab, double-click a workspace's name to edit it. Names can't be blank and are limited to 64 characters.
Opening a Saved Workspace
Each workspace row has two open icons:
- Open workspace in this tab: Replaces the current browser tab's Flex tabs with the selected workspace.
- Open workspace in a new tab: Opens the selected workspace in a new browser tab and leaves your current browser tab unchanged.
Both icons are disabled for the workspace you're currently using, unless it's a permanent workspace. Opening the current permanent workspace restores its saved arrangement of tabs. Note that double-clicking a row does not open the workspace.
Opening a Clean Workspace
Click the Open clean workspace in a new tab icon in the bottom toolbar to open a new browser tab containing Home only. Your current browser tab is not affected.
Deleting Workspaces
- On the Workspaces tab, select the checkbox next to each workspace you want to delete. The workspace you're currently using can't be selected.
- Click the Delete icon in the bottom toolbar.
- Confirm the deletion. Deleted workspaces are removed permanently and can't be recovered.
Permanent Workspaces
By default, a workspace saves automatically every time its tabs change. Selecting the Permanent checkbox locks in the workspace's current arrangement of tabs as its saved arrangement.
You can keep opening and closing tabs while using a permanent workspace, and those tabs still survive a browser refresh, but the saved arrangement doesn't change. The next time you open the workspace from the Workspaces tab, Flex restores the saved arrangement.
For example, save a workspace with tabs A and B, mark it Permanent, then open tab C. Refreshing the browser keeps A, B, and C open, but opening the workspace from the Workspaces tab later restores only A and B.
Clearing the Permanent checkbox turns automatic saving back on. If it's the workspace you're currently using, its current tabs become the saved arrangement.
Updating a Permanent Workspace
To change a permanent workspace's saved tabs without turning off Permanent:
- While using the permanent workspace, open, close, and arrange your Flex tabs the way you want them saved.
- Click the Workspaces icon.
- Click the Update icon on the current workspace's row. This icon is only available for the permanent workspace you're currently using.
- Confirm to replace the workspace's saved tabs with your current tabs. Canceling leaves the saved tabs unchanged.
Workspace Limit
Each user can save up to 10 workspaces. Renaming, updating, or changing Permanent on an existing workspace doesn't use an additional slot.
